‘Death Stranding’ Movie Gets Massive Update With Alum From 80% Rotten Tomatoes Sci-Fi Drama

Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding universe is growing by the minute. Days after casually mentioning that an anime series spinning out of the fan-favorite video game franchise is in development, a new adult animated movie has also been announced. The animated movie has found its writer in Raised by Wolves‘ scribe, Aaron Guzikowski, Animation Magazine reports.

Death Stranding is continuously expanding its world, and now with Guzikowski’s addition, the wheels should roll faster on the adult animation film. Guzikowski is fascinated by the Death Stranding world and deems the writing job a dream come true. “Drawing and animation have always been near and dear to my heart, so to finally get to play in this space is a dream come true.”

Guzikowski, the scribe behind Raised by Wolves, Prisoners, and The Red Road among others, is well known for his deeply philosophical themes wrapped in thrilling action, which makes him a perfect fit for the Death Stranding world. He further shared his excitement, saying,

“I love the world of Death Stranding, it’s so creatively freeing, so beautifully dark and yet hopeful; I’m so excited and honored that Hideo Kojima, whose work I’ve long admired, has invited me to dwell within his creation, to birth new stories into this fertile, mind-bending universe.”

A ‘Death Stranding’ Live-Action Movie Is Also in the Works

Kojima has previously shared intentions of expanding his IP for a global audience. He listed several mediums alongside movies as part of his independent Kojima Productions’ cross-media empire, which is shaping up now. So, along with a new animated film, fans have an anime to look forward to and a live-action movie on the way, which has found its director in A Quiet Place: Day One‘s Michael Sarnoski. Kojima previously teased the live-action film:

“When it comes to film adaptations of games, there have been recent films like The Last of Us that keep the plot of the original intact, and films like The Super Mario Bros. Movie that are more like a service to game fans. Each of these works has its own merits, but as a film lover, I want to pursue expression as a film. I am aiming to make Death Stranding in a way that can only be done as a film, and that will win awards at the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival. In fact, we are also currently working on an anime adaptation.”

No release date for the Death Stranding animated movie has been announced. Stay tuned to Collider for more such updates.
