Nobody gets quoted back to himself more than The Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger. So, when he stopped by The View, he got a healthy dose of his iconic “I’ll be back” line from some of the women, and he couldn’t have loved it more.
Schwarzenegger was on the show to promote Season 2 of his Netflix series FUBAR. But Whoopi Goldberg and Sara Haines couldn’t resist delivering that line that everyone seems to want to master.
Noting how she loves that the writers of his new series are unafraid to reference his previous body of work, Sara attempted her silly version of the line, “I’ll be back.” Accent included. Of course, Arnold was amused at the silly ode to himself, as he’s used to the constant barrage of homage.
Not to be outdone, Whoopi showcased the reason why she has an EGOT when throwing to commercial with her spot-on rendition, “I’m going to be terrible and do the same thing. ‘Ve’ll be back vit more vit more Hot Topics vit Arnold Schwarzenegger.'” Her Planet Hollywood friend politely chuckled and smiled as the camera panned around the table.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Tells ‘The View’ How He Wanted to Change His Line
After Sara tried her hand at impersonating Arnold, he shared the story about how he originally asked to have the line changed. When they filmed the movie in 1984, he asked the writer-director, James Cameron, “Can I say, ‘I will be back?’ and he says, ‘I wrote the line, I’m the writer. Are you correcting my line now?’” Although the line felt awkward with his German accent, he followed James Cameron’s direction — and the rest is movie history.
“We did not know that this line would become such a famous line,” he said. “Everybody and their mama tries to do it,” said Whoopi. “And they try to do it in your accent, as she just did.” Sara smirked and joked, “Nailed it!” Before heading to the break, the table and the viewing audience got the opportunity to hear him deliver another one of his other well-known quotes, “Get to the chopper!” and “Stick around.”
In addition to speaking about the origin story of his most famous line, the former Governor of California shared high praise for his FUBAR co-star, Monica Barbaro, sharing the story of how he was blamed for making her dog fat because he fed the dog wiener schnitzel. How apropos. He also shared how proud he was of his son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, for his role in The White Lotus. Of course, the ladies asked him about how he felt being blindsided by seeing his son’s full-frontal nude scene, but he noted how it’s full circle as he had a nude scene in The Terminator. “I cannot complain to Patrick because he’ll say, ‘Daddy, remember Terminator? In all of your Terminators, you’re naked in the beginning.'”
The View airs weekdays on ABC and available to stream on Hulu.
