As ‘The Chosen’ Becomes More Successful, a New Biblical Series Is in Development

Amazon has found their next Biblical television smash hit. Dallas Jenkins has signed on to develop Joseph of Egypt for the studio, after The Chosen proved that audiences are very interested in seeing narratives from the Bible depicted on screen. Jenkins will return to television after producing a wide variety of Biblical projects that have resonated with audiences from all over the world. No actors have been cast in Joseph of Egypt, so it might be a while before audiences get to enjoy this title on Prime Video.

In the Bible, the story of Joseph is centered around how the young man is sold into slavery in Egypt by his brothers. Many years before Jesus Christ (Jonathan Roumie) walked the Earth, Joseph found different ways to interpret the Pharaoh’s strange dreams. When Joseph’s predictions saved Egypt from famine, he quickly became popular within the community. The team that worked hard to turn The Chosen into a reality will return for what promises to be another successful Biblical title for Amazon.

This isn’t the first time a television series centered around Joseph has been mentioned by the creator of The Chosen. Dallas Jenkins talked about the potential development of Joseph of Egypt in the fall of last year, when he also discussed the possibility of working on a show centered around Moses. As the series that depicts Jesus’ adult life continues to grow into a bigger success, Jenkins aims to bring as many Biblical stories to television as possible.

The Legacy of ‘The Chosen’ Continues

Amazon is taking their acquisition of the distribution rights of upcoming installments of The Chosen very seriously. Once the company saw how successful the series became for 5&2 Studios, Amazon was quick to acquire the distribution rights for the project while working on the development of future stories based on what is written in the Bible. Dallas Jenkins was brought on board to serve as a consultant for House of David, the Biblical project that Prime Video launched earlier this year.

House of David was created by Jon Erwin, and tells the story of David (Michael Iskander), a young shepherd in Bethlehem who is chosen to be the next king of Israel. House of David also features Ali Suliman as Saul, Ayelet Zurer as Ahinoam, and Indy Lewis as Michal. It’s clear that Prime Video found their next potential franchise in the Biblical titles developed by Dallas Jenkins and Jon Erwin, with Joseph of Egypt becoming the latest story to join the mix.

A release date for Joseph of Egypt hasn’t been set by Prime Video. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
