MobLand may be one of the grittiest crime dramas on TV right now, but even its fate is up in the air. Nearly a month after the Season 1 finale dropped on Paramount+, the streamer has yet to confirm whether or not the series will be returning for a second season. Still, fans aren’t letting that stop them from rallying behind the show keeping it in the global Top 10 — and they’re not alone.
Created by Ronan Bennett, MobLand stars Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren in a Shakespearean war of succession and betrayal set in the underbelly of Irish-British organized crime. The series currently holds a solid 75% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an even stronger 77% audience score, reflecting just how invested viewers have become in the Harrigan empire’s bloody chess game. While Paramount+ continues to play it coy, the cast has been vocal about their hopes to return. Speaking to ScreenRant, series star Joanne Froggatt made her feelings clear:
“We’re just hopeful. We’ll keep our fingers crossed. Obviously, nothing’s official yet, so yeah, we’re just very hopeful to be able to carry on the story for sure. I’d love to.”
What Will Season 2 of ‘MobLand’ Be About?
Pierce Brosnan, who plays imprisoned mob patriarch Conrad Harrigan, echoed the uncertainty in an interview with Collider’s Taylor Gates, sharing that even he doesn’t know what’s coming — and that’s exactly how he prefers it:
“I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen. I have some ideas in my head, but I have not expressed those to Guy Ritchie or to Jez Butterworth or Ronan Bennett, who are the writers. I have no idea. I don’t know. I mean, I didn’t know going in last time, so there’s a part of me that’s quite happy to let it all just unfold before me. Right now, I’m just feeding the chickens, I’m painting, I’m golfing, and that’s what I do — enjoying life.”
Sitting beside Brosnan, Samuel L. Jackson couldn’t resist chiming in with a laugh:
“He’s never getting out of prison! Leave him alone!”
The finale episode, The Beast in Me, didn’t just live up to the season’s slow-burn chaos — it detonated everything. With Conrad and Maeve (Mirren) behind bars, the power vacuum was filled by Kevin (Paddy Considine) and Harry (Hardy), though their grip on the empire already looks unstable. Maeve remains manipulative even from her cell, Eddie (Anson Boon) is spiraling into darkness, and Seraphina (Mandeep Dhillon) could turn at any moment. Add in Kat McAllister (Janet McTeer) quietly pulling strings, and it’s clear the bloodshed is far from over.
While showrunner Ronan Bennett and executive producer Jez Butterworth have yet to publicly confirm the show’s renewal, Butterworth recently told the New York Post:
“If it’s doing that — fascinating and delighting and stimulating an audience — then long may it continue.”
