Ben Affleck’s 77% Rotten Tomatoes Sequel Breaks a New Record on Prime Video Charts

The Accountant 2 has been the most wholesome action movie this year. Starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal as estranged brothers who are exceptional at killing people, the film features some of the best on-screen chemistry, ample bone-breaking, and the most intriguing comedic moments. While the movie did not do well at the box office, streaming is another ball game.

Deadline reports that the Gavin O’Connor-directed sequel has garnered nearly 80 million viewers worldwide on Prime Video, making it Amazon MGM Studios’ second most-watched film of all time. No doubt fans waited for the movie to drop on the streaming service to watch it at their leisure. At the box office, the movie only made approximately $102 million worldwide against a budget of $80 million.

The Accountant 2 boasts compelling performances from Bernthal and Affleck as the dynamic duo tries to solve the case in their brutal ways. The story and cinematography feel fresh, and the action is slick; be it gunfire or hand-to-hand combat, the actors excel. The movie has a 77% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes while the audience score sits as high as 92%.

In The Accountant 2, Christian Wolff (Affleck) teams up with Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), applying his brilliant mind and illegal methods to reconstruct the unsolved puzzle of their common friend, Treasury chief Raymon King’s murder. When their investigation hits a roadblock, Christian once again partners with his shady brother Braxton (Bernthal) to save the day.

Will There Be a ‘The Accountant 3’?

While The Accountant 2 took a decade to get made, a third movie in the franchise won’t be that distant a dream. O’Connor previously told Collider about his three-movie plan, “There’s always been three. Since post-production, since I started editing the first one. I didn’t know Bill [Dubuque]. We met on the first movie. I got the script from Lynette Howell Taylor, and then from the script that I initially got, I started working with Bill.” He further adds, “I think any filmmaker’s going to do it. You get a script, you respond to it. How does it affect you personally? But then you keep climbing inside of it. It becomes your own aesthetic and sensibility.” Given that The Accountant 2 is a streaming hit and getting so much love and attention from fans, an official confirmation for a third film should arrive any day.

The Accountant 2 is streaming on Prime Video; you can check out the trailer above. Currently, there are no details or confirmation about a third film. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
