‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Star, 44, Teases “A Lot of Maggie and Mickey” in Emotional Season 4 [Exclusive]

After being out of the picture for much of Season 3 of Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, Maggie McPherson is about to have a big role in what’s being billed as the show’s most personal yet. Neve Campbell was promoted to a series regular earlier this year when Season 4 was officially ordered, and it all but assured that the attorney would remain close by her ex-husband Mickey Haller’s side as he fights the murder charges against him. It’s the perfect time for a comeback, as Maggie has long been a fan favorite and an emotional anchor for Mickey, given the history the characters share. Series star Manuel García-Rulfo promises that their ever-evolving relationship will be front and center in the upcoming run, too.

In the wake of his recent role in Jurassic World Rebirth, García-Rulfo recently sat down with Collider’s Christina Radish for a larger profile exploring his journey to stardom. Their conversation naturally steered to The Lincoln Lawyer and Season 4, particularly what’s next with Campbell’s character. While the actor has been more than happy with the co-stars he’s gotten to share the screen with in the legal drama, like Jazz Raycole, Angus Sampson, and Becki Newton, he admitted he shared a special connection with the Scream icon because of their characters’ bond. He had nothing but glowing praise for her as a scene partner and assured that, with Mickey’s life on the line, there’ll be much to explore between them and their daughter, Hayley (Krista Warner):

“She’s back, and I love that she’s back. I love Angus and Becki and Jazz because they’re so fun, and we’re always laughing. But this season, I enjoyed working with Neve because she’s the anchor of the emotionality of the story. They share a daughter, and you’ll get to see them together. I love working with Neve. She’s such a wonderful person and actress. I love that she’s back. There’s a lot of Maggie and Mickey, for sure.”

Where Will Mickey and Maggie’s Relationship Go in ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Season 4?

Mickey and Maggie have explored what it would be like to get back together, but for the most part, they’ve simply acted as each other’s biggest supporters in the high-stress world of law. That won’t change in Season 4, but their dynamic might shake up a bit. As Mickey tries to prove that the body of Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton) found in his trunk in the Season 3 finale was an attempt to frame him, the series will introduce a new boyfriend for his ex in the charming Jack Gilroy (Jason O’Mara). It’s a sign that they could be fully moving on, even though they’ll always be a part of each other’s lives thanks to their daughter.

Season 4 will be based on the sixth novel in Michael Connelly‘s series of books, The Law of Innocence. For Mickey, it’ll be his biggest challenge yet, not just because he’s both the lawyer and the client, but because of who he’s facing in the prosecution. Constance Zimmer is joining the fold as the ruthless prosecutor Dana Berg, a relentlessly effective legal force given the nickname “Death Row Dana” for her ability to send her opposition to the chair, or, at the very least, life behind bars. Fortunately, he’ll have a new selection of allies joining his side, including Gigi Zumbado as the paralegal-in-training Grace, and Marcus Henderson as his cellmate Yannick Bamba, but, thanks to Connelly’s other novel series Bosch being wrapped up at Amazon, it’s unlikely that we’ll get a team-up between Mickey and his half-brother Harry (Titus Welliver) as seen on the page.

A release date has yet to be set for The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4. Stay tuned here at Collider for more as work continues on Mickey’s return.
