Rick and Morty Season 8 has proven divisive, earning plenty of praise following a dismal Season 7. However, with controversy still affecting the adult animation, it can’t seem to shake off some of the negativity. However, following the surprise cameos of James Gunn and Zack Snyder in Season 8’s seventh episode, “Ricker Than Fiction,” it seems that the series can at least celebrate its own streaming success as it tops HBO Max’s streaming charts across the world.
Per FlixPatrol, as of July 8, 2025, Rick and Morty is the most-watched show on HBO globally, topping the charts in Australia, Belize, Poland, Slovakia, and more. However, in the U.S., on the very same date, Rick and Morty did not top the charts, instead losing out to the current global #2, The Gilded Age, which is currently airing its third season. Globally, The Gilded Age‘s #2 spot has only been marginally achieved, with the Sex and the City spin-off And Just Like That… proving a close competitor at #2.
The rest of the current top 10 is stacked. At #4 on the list is Chespirito: Not Really on Purpose, with J.J. Abrams‘ Duster proving popular at #5 despite having just faced cancellation. The 1990 adaptation of Stephen King‘s It is at #6, with Burcu Alptekin‘s Yali Çapkini at #7, and Pati at #8. Married… With Children, the classic sitcom that starred Ed O’Neill and Katey Sagal, is currently at #9, with Black Widows: Wh*res & Hustlers just sneaking onto the list with a tenth-place finish.
Is ‘Rick and Morty’ Season 8 Worth the Streaming Success?
Sure, plenty of people are watching Rick and Morty Season 8 across the world, but does that mean it’s any good? As mentioned previously, the show is still proving divisive, but that doesn’t take away from the fairly universal agreement that Season 8 is at least better than Season 7. In Jasneet Singh‘s review of the eighth season for Collider, she awarded it a fair 7/10, saying, “Despite this slight tonal shift, Rick and Morty Season 8 can only really be described as consistent. It hasn’t brought anything new to the table thus far, but also cannot be faulted for the quality of stories, humor, and emotion it delivers.” She then concludes:
“Striking the balance between absurdity and heartfelt scenes while chucking in a truckload of hilarious satire and imaginative visuals, Rick and Morty continues to deliver its trademark addictive, cheap thrills that won’t disappoint any longtime fan of the show.”
Rick and Morty Season 8 airs weekly. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on the latest shows.
