John Cena’s New Action Hit Fights Its Way to the Top of Prime’s Charts in Almost Every Country

The trio of John Cena, Idris Elba, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas is apparently a recipe for success, certainly where Prime Video is concerned. After shooting ahead of the Ben Affleck-led The Accountant 2 on its opening day on the streaming platform, Heads of State, a brand-new action comedy helmed by Nobody director Ilya Naishuller, has gone from strength to strength as Cena continues to prove he can balance being at the top of WWE billing and in big-budget blockbusters.

As of July 8, 2025, per FlixPatrol, Heads of State is the most-watched movie on Prime Video globally. The impressive records don’t stop there, with the action comedy officially topping the movie charts of almost every country around the world where Prime Video is available. Just three countries don’t have the movie as their #1 right now – Japan, Italy, and India – with their current #1’s being A Bad Summer, Damaged, and Uppu Kappurambu, respectively.

It isn’t just The Accountant 2 that Heads of State has had to do battle with to find global success, with another eight movies also joining the streamer’s current highest rankings. At #10, as of July 8, is Ruby Rose‘s The Doorman, with the romantic drama Me Before You starring Game of ThronesEmilia Clarke at #9. The brand-new side-splitting comedy Deep Cover is at #8, with Alex Garland‘s Warfare at #7, and Marked Men: Rule + Shaw at #6. Jason Statham, Michael Peña, and David Harbour‘s A Working Man begins the top 5, with The Last Voyage of the Demeter at #4, and the Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell-led romantic comedy Anyone But You at #3, just missing out on the top two.

Is ‘Heads of State’ Worth the Streaming Success?

Comedies can come and go on streaming without much of a hint of fanfare. So, when one manages to stick and proves globally popular, is it fair to assume it’s because of high quality? In Heads of State‘s case, the answer is yes, with many citing strong, goofy performances and exciting action sequences as enough to make this a triumph where so many similar ventures have failed. In Nate Richard‘s 7/10 review of the movie for Collider, he said, “Right from the jump, Heads of State knows exactly the kind of movie that it wants to be, and leans into all the goofiness and stupidity that comes across as endearing rather than lazy.” He then added:

“It’s unapologetic, silly, and self-aware, while still having flashy action scenes that look surprisingly great. It’s the perfect movie to watch for the 4th of July once you get back from watching the fireworks.”

Heads of State is streaming on Prime Video now.
