Kaiju No. 8 has featured a variety of kaiju monsters that have wreaked havoc across Japan, but there is one monster that, despite being part of different franchises, many wish to see appear. Godzilla made an unofficial cameo on the show’s social media account, teasing a face-off that many people want to see. Will it come to life? Who knows, but fans hope it will.
Over on the official Kaiju No. 8 Twitter/X account, an illustration by Masahiro Maeda showcases Kafka Hibino going up against Godzilla in his kaiju form. Its translated title reads “Monster vs. Monster Dream Showdown, and it is a dream showdown as this event doesn’t occur in the manga. But even if this piece isn’t canon, this is a face-off that many fans wish to see, probably in an OVA, so it doesn’t break the show’s continuity. This isn’t the first time Godzilla has been featured in a crossover. Back in December 2024, a now-deleted post by the official Godzilla Toho Twitter/X account teased the two franchises appearing in the same space.
Aside from its sheer size that could destroy cities, Godzilla is also a massive cultural icon. Created by Ishiro Honda in 1954, it has not only had a chokehold on pop culture but has also appeared in numerous films and projects, including the Monsterverse franchise, and its presence in the media has served as an inspiration for many filmmakers, most recently James Gunn‘s Superman. Additionally, it is a cultural ambassador for Shinjuku, Japan. Due to its immense popularity in both Japan and the West, it was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2004, marking its 50th anniversary.
