Alan Ritchson debuted his latest season of Reacher earlier this year, but in 2024, he starred alongside a former Superman actor for a WWII thriller that’s been a streaming juggernaut. Ritchson stars alongside Henry Cavill and Eiza González in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the WWII action epic following a small group of highly skilled soldiers who are recruited by the British to execute a strike against the Germans. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is streaming on Starz in America and on Prime Video globally, where it’s one of the most popular movies in countries such as the Czech Republic and Finland. The film netted scores of 68% from critics and 91% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, but it flopped at the box office, earning only $29 million against a $60 million budget.
Henry Cavill has spoken openly about his character’s mustache in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and how he was the one who advocated for the wacky facial hair. Guy Ritchie signed on to direct The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and he also wrote the script with contributions from Paul Tamsay, Eric Johnson, and Arash Amel. This film marked the first time Ritchie worked with former Superman star Henry Cavill and Reacher’s Alan Ritchson, but he’s already back in the trenches with one of the stars. Cavill will star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in In The Grey, the next action film from the director that’s still lacking an official release date. Ritchie is also known for his work with action icon Jason Statham — the duo teamed up for two films recently, first Wrath of Man and later Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which dropped in 2021 and 2023, respectively.
