The last week has been a difficult one for fans of The Boys. It’s been bittersweet in the way that while we’re happy that Season 5 is officially filmed and ready to head into post, it means that the story will come to an end following the next set of episodes. As series creator, Eric Kripke, and stars like Erin Moriarty bid adieu to the long-running Prime Video favorite, it’s good to keep in mind that the satirical superhero universe won’t end here. Luckily, we’ve still got its offshoot, Gen V ticking away with new episodes due out this fall, and there’s yet another spin-off in the works starring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash as Soldier Boy and Stormfront, respectively. Titled Vought Rising, news of the project first arrived last summer and now, thanks to Ackles, we have a huge update about its production timeline.
While appearing earlier this week on Live with Kelly and Mark in support of his new Prime Video series, Countdown, the actor revealed that cameras will begin rolling on Vought Rising very soon, sharing,
“I’m workin on a few different shows right now, so I’ve got Countdown which is out right now — Prime Video. We filmed that out in Los Angeles, but there’s a new show coming up that I start next month, which is Vought Rising, a spin-off of The Boys.”
When asked by co-host Kelly Ripa if the title would be “just as demented as The Boys,” Ackles laughed and said,
“Of course it will! It’s in the same [universe]. And we just finished Season 5 of The Boys, well, they just finished, I wrapped a little earlier. So, that is now in the can and should be out next year.”
