The last time we saw LA’s best defense attorney, Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), he was a man in a whole world of trouble. With the body of his client, Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton), found in the trunk of his Lincoln convertible, Haller is in for a rollercoaster ride in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4. Created for television by David E. Kelley, The Lincoln Lawyer is based on the novels by Michael Connelly and Season 4 is set to adapt The Law of Innocence, a beloved novel in the book series. The groundwork has been laid for what is sure to be an emotionally torturous time for Mickey as he works towards proving his innocence. Garcia-Rulfo has recently revealed why the coming season is a favorite of his.
The past three seasons of The Lincoln Lawyer have seen Mickey as the attorney. Season 4 will showcase him as the defendant, and it’s likely that he won’t do very well in the dock. Garcia-Rulfo, while speaking with Variety, explained how emotional the story in Season 4 will be, noting that its “heaviness” is its strength. The actor reveals that his love for the season began prior to the start of production. Garcia-Rulfo’s comments read:
“It’s the most emotional season — heavy emotion — because of how we found him, and a lot of things happen, which I cannot say, but they’re very emotional for me. I told the showrunners even reading them before we start shooting, it is the one that I’ve enjoyed the most. I’ve all enjoyed all of them, but this one is the one that I’ve enjoyed the most because it has the most heaviness.”
Audiences are definitely going to be presented with a different type of Mickey Haller in Season 4 than they’ve grown accustomed to. Season 4 will feature the return of Neve Campbell as Maggie, Mickey’s first wife, and she’s likely to be front and center of Mickey’s defense. With the boss out of commission, it’d also mean his friends, Izzy (Jazz Raycole), Lorna (Becki Newton) and Cisco (Angus Sampson), would equally have to step up as never before.
The Weight of Innocence Will Be Evident in ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Season 4
Haller is no stranger to trouble and it’s likely that his recent challenges are as a result of an old adversary finally trying to get some retribution. Haller’s defense will be lacking a formidable hand though, as fierce criminal prosecutor, Andrea Freeman (Yaya DaCosta), will be missing from the action. Speaking a separate interview regarding how Mickey might handle his trial, co-showrunner, Ted Humphrey, described the embattled attorney as being his own worst enemy. “There’s no worse client than an innocent man. Well, what happens when you’re that innocent man, and how do you handle that? And how do you deal with the fact that traditionally a lawyer who represents himself is a fool for a client? So we’ll see.”
A release date for the fourth season of The Lincoln Lawyer hasn’t been announced by Netflix. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
