A teacher struggling with addiction, a love-sick romantic with an undying dedication to his wife, and an LAPD Blade Runner — these are just a few of the roles that Ryan Gosling has taken on during his lengthy career in Hollywood. Despite the emotional depths he’s dug into or the physical demands that he’s pushed his body to attain, the actor named a project that might not seem difficult on the surface as his most challenging portrayal yet — Ken from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. And now, time is running out for Netflix subscribers to stream his crossover into the world of Mattel, as the pinkified movie is set to take its leave from the streamer on July 15.

Back in 2024, the critically celebrated actor spoke about his time opposite Margot Robbie in Gerwig’s summer box office hit and opened up about the massive tangle of nerves that he felt after signing on for the job, revealing,

“It was the title page of the script, which said “Barbie and Ken,” but “and Ken” was scratched out. And the next impression was, this is the hardest part I’ll ever play. How do you approach playing a 70-year-old crotchless doll? There’s no research you can do for that. There’s no one you can shadow, no documentaries you can watch, no books written about Ken. You’re on your own.”
